In the UK, one person will experience a Heart attack every 2 minutes, with a 20-30 percent survival rate outside a hospital environment. This will be increased to 70 percent if an AED is used within 3 minutes of a Heart Attack starting.


This course will give students the essential skills to become a safe and competent AED operator.


Course duration:

2 - 4 hours


Maximum number of students: 6


Pre- course knowledge: None, although some knowledge of CPR would be desirable.

The course content includes:

• AED Equipment Familiarisation

• Primary Survey

• Recovery Position

• Recognition of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest

including causes

• Chain of Survival

• Basic Life Support

• Operating an AED

• Practical Scenarios

A manual will be provided.

Each candidate will undergo a final practical assessment to confirm objectives have been achieved.

A certificate will be issued to students after the course. Due to skill fade it is recommended that students attend a refresher course after 12 months.
